Our Hero-U Month has come to its conclusion with the launch of Hero-U and the interview with Corey Cole, and so it is time to decide what to do with our official TAG banner. We could just return to our old Monkey Island banner, but since that would be a dull move, we've decided to hold a TAG Banner Contest!
We tried to hire Mark Ruffalo as the mascot of our Banner Contest, but when he heard he'd get only CAPs as his reward, he became angry and green and almost stomped on us |
The contest will have two categories. Firstly, you can simply tell us in the comments your idea about what the new TAG banner should look like. Every new suggestion will be rewarded with 5 CAPs and the admin and the reviewers of TAG will choose a winner, who will receive 25 CAPs.
Secondly, if you have a talent for making good graphics, you can choose any of the ideas in the comments or one of your own, design a banner and send your proposal to adventuregamer@googlegroups.com. Our Hero-U Month Banner is 950 x 192 pixels, so try to stay close to that size. The participants in this contest will receive 10 CAPs reward in a later post, where we will introduce all the designed banners. The winner of the contest will be also chosen by the admin and the reviewers, but this time the prize of winning will be 50 CAPs.
If you don't have any idea for the banner nor have enough graphical skills, you can still participate in the discussion. Should the TAG banner reflect the current games played (or alternatively recent games played) and thus change often? Or should it be a more permanent feature of the blog?
Enough chattering, let your imagination run wild!
I like multi-game character sprite collages like at https://i.pinimg.com/originals/97/04/23/970423fd11ce881e01f603d5f5017c63.jpg
ReplyDeleteHow about a progression of character sprites from early to modern?
ReplyDeleteSomething like the image in this article? A good idea, yes - maybe a little on the cliché side (to parody March of Progress), but a fitting idea for this blog, and one I support.
DeleteWith something like this how about adding inventory screens from the most commonly used engines at the bottom? Then we can see both the characters and the UI evolution.
DeleteYes, more or less what I had in mind. If you had enough of them you could build a fun montage. But even showing, for example, the Sierra series examples would be fun but we've been going on QfG and stuff with the Coles for a while .
DeleteAll good ideas! I wish I had the talent to do that. I hope others on here have more skill than I do. I can barely format screenshots some days...
DeleteI wish I had the art skill, but I'm thinking a merging of ages more similar to the SQ1 level of SQ4 -- modern-looking characters interacting with 8-bit environments and inventory (and some 8-bit characters as well)
ReplyDeleteOne of the advantages of a one-game logo is that they would be relatively easy to make from screenshots. Any time we're trying to mix and match multiple games, we get into levels of artistic talent that is more rare in the world.
ReplyDeleteIf you didn't see my impressionist mockup of a Kings Quest-based logo, you can find it here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/19-HaJaVphtsK0d_IHH3G32v1uwR13PDl/view?usp=sharing
love it! KQ I to V in a shot...
DeleteI'm glad SOMEONE likes my idea! I had hoped it would get a more positive reception (even if I also hoped a more talented artist could do the honors).
DeleteHow hard is it to have rotating banners? On my personal WordPress blog I have twenty different banners and it picks a random one each time someone visits the page. I don't know if Blogspot has a similar option but if it does then we could make a few different options and not have to leave out or cram everyone's ideas into one banner.
ReplyDeleteI do not believe blogspot allows for rotating banners easily, but I can think of a few ways to do it. Of course, we'd need more than one before we could start rotating...
