What's Your Story? - Dave_the_Turnip

It has become apparent that I might have been a little optimistic to think I'd have lots of time to play and write during my work trip to London. My days have been filled with work and my evenings just as filled with socialising and visiting touristy things. I'm actually off to France for a few days from Wednesday, so I'm afraid there's going to be a short lull in my activity. I'll be playing Larry 2 as soon as I complete this post, so who knows...I might finish it before I go!?

Anyway, it's time for the second What's Your Story? post. Taking them in the order I received them, the next reader in line is Dave_the_Turnip and well..here's the man himself! (Once again I should point out that I selected the images and wrote the captions, not Dave himself)

Dave's a happy guy! Not surprising I guess since he lives in the happiest country on the planet.

My home country is... Australia (though i was born in the U.S.)

My age is... 30

The first adventure game I played was... Police Quest (it taught me how to spell the word 'license')

My favourite adventure game is... a tie between Loom and Day of the Tentacle

Loom: One of the most anticipated games on the list that I've never played!

When I’m not playing games I like to... draw cartoons and play bass guitar

I like my games in (a box, digital format)... digital so i can download them from anywhere

If I could see any band live it would be… Rush, or Frank Zappa if he were still alive

Hopefully Moon Unit, Dweezil, Ahmet Emuukha Rodan and Diva Thin Muffin Pigeen can carry on their father's creative work

The thing I miss about old games is… a greater sense of immersion (that might be due to age and the time i was able to spend)

The best thing about modern games is… the evolution of good game design and the experiences that has brought

My favourite movie is… The Maltese Falcon

I love old films, but I haven't seen this one. I'll have to remedy that!

The one TV show I never miss is… well i watch tv online, but my fave show is probably Whose Line is it Anyway

One interesting thing about me is… I've always wanted to be a cartoonist and am continuing that dream over at www.yetanothercomic.com

First we had Alfred n the Fettuc the French film director, now we have Dave_the_Turnip the cartoonist. We have some talent here people!

Note from The Trickster: While Dave chose not to blow his own trumpet, he also has a gaming blog that's worth a read. Check it out at http://davegamethoughts.blogspot.com.

  1. The new Space Quest game needs only $10000 to be funded with 21 hours to go. Looks like we'll have another classic series being revived!

    I love this Kickstarter thing!

  2. That's SpaceVenture! Since Activision would want buttloads of money to release the Space Quest property rather than just leaving it in their broom closet gathering dust. Also Dave, Loom was awesome and a great choice! I always thought it deserved a sequel.

  3. SpaceVenture is funded! With 505k in the bag and 20 hrs left to make even more! The Two Guys From Andromeda are back!

  4. It's a good time to be a gamer. Not only do we have access to all the old games from our childhood and emulators to play them with, now we have the ability to fund the return of these long lost series and interact with the developers.

    Happy days!

  5. I agree. GOG.com alone not stocks virtually every wonderful memory from my childhood of PC gaming... for CHEAP. I really hope the PS3/Xbox360 crowd is checking those things out. Or at least trying some of the "HD Remakes" that are all the rage these days.

  6. My moment in the bloggy sun!

Speaking of kickstarter funding, i was so happy that Project Fedora got funded last week! :D

  7. I'm just back from watching the Spaceventure kickstarter surpass $500k, breathtaking progress in the last day. Looked really doomed during the middle, can only imagine what Scott and Mark were feeling.

  8. I'm thinking I should edit mine for spelling and grammar before I let Trickster post it! Could you email it back to me, please?

  9. Where are you going in France? Paris? I should have a few nice bars and restaurants to send you to!

    1. Unfortunately I won't be in Paris this time. I'm going to Nantes, which I'm aware isn't one of the most loved parts of France, but that's where the festival is.

There'll be no time for restaurants or pubs though. It's going to be fourteen hours of music, three days in a row! :)

  10. Trickster: I'd recommend watching The Maltese Falcon before you play the Quest for Glory games (Well, before the second one anyway). It's a great film in it's own right, and one of those classics that get referenced everywhere.

I'd also like to bring everyone's attention to a kickstarter from the guys behind Infamous Adventures (they did VGA remakes of KQ3 and SQ2):

  11. Sure is funny reading all of the excited comments about Spaceventure being funded. Here we are, eight years later, and...nothing to show for it. Maybe they're waiting for the 10th anniversary of taking everyone's money to finish it? SMH.

  12. Yeah. I backed it, but by now I'm almost annoyed to be getting updates. I've run out of both hope and goodwill. I was pretty annoyed to see "if everything goes according to plan" they're aiming at a June release... guys, when has ANYTHING ever gone according to plan for this project??? They should have at least doubled the time estimate and even maybe said, like, December (and even then I'd be skeptical).

Note Regarding Spoilers and Companion Assist Points: There's a set of rules regarding spoilers and companion assist points. Please read it here before making any comments that could be considered a spoiler in any way. The short of it is that no points will be given for hints or spoilers given in advance of the reviewer requiring one. Please...try not to spoil any part of the game...unless they really obviously need the help...or they specifically request assistance.

If this is a game introduction post: This is your opportunity for readers to bet 10 CAPs (only if they already have them) that the reviewer won't be able to solve a puzzle without putting in an official Request for Assistance: remember to use ROT13 for betting. If you get it right, you will be rewarded with 50 CAPs in return.
It's also your chance to predict what the final rating will be for the game. Voters can predict whatever score they want, regardless of whether someone else has already chosen it. All score votes and puzzle bets must be placed before the next gameplay post appears. The winner will be awarded 10 CAPs.
