Reader's Choice 1992

Only two games to go before the end of 1992! We continue with the tradition of letting our readers choose, what is the best game of the year.

Choose wisely (and no, we are not saying what you should choose)

  1. I already said in the review of FOA, the reviewer made a mistake by not scoring it 100, but well that's ok. There were other ok games in that year. 1992 and 1993 are the golden age of graphic adventures for me

    1. Got to agree with that comment about the golden age. So many gems from that era. I'm looking forward to 1993 reviews. Can Day of the Tentacle set a new high bar (I doubt it'll beat FoA on PISSED, but it's probably my favourite of all time).

Has to be FoA for 1992. Nothing else comes close for me.

  3. This is so easy for me... Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes is not only the best game of 1992...it is the best game of all time!

  5. Gotta be Fate of Atlantis.

(Although I'm tempted to say BAT II because it gave me my ten minutes of Adventure Gamer game... but... erm... no. FOA it is.)

  6. As I tried to make abundantly clear in my review, Curse of Enchantia is, without a doubt, the best game of 1992. Nay, of all times. It's the magnum opus of any artistic creation ever done by mankind.

  7. I almost voted for "Gateway" for a minute there. Almost.

  8. I bought BAT II when it came out, only because of the hardware copy protection add-on as I figured I would be able to pirate whatever other game I was gonna buy.

    Still voted for Kodos though...

  9. Choosing a #1 was easy. If I had to choose a #2 or #3, I'd have a hard time.

  10. I think it is more difficult to vote for the worst game of the year: Bargon Attack, Nippon Safes, Curse of Enchantia, Inca...

    1. The fact that Hugo III isn't even in your list proves there was no lack of crappy games this year indeed.

    2. I knew someone would mention Hugo III, but ypu know what? I enjoyed that one more than the other four. And that's something!

    3. Eh, I feel like Inca doesn't deserve a worst game of the year, even including the complete garbage combat. Its too weird and experimental to be that, at worst, its a failed experiment.

Is Bargon Attack really bad? I've only heard good things about it, nothing splash-worthy, but nothing terrible.

Also, its funny about Hugo 3 being compared to Inca. The final Hugo game, Nitemare 3D would turn out to be a shooter with a handful of puzzles. Its actually a pretty good game, much better than the adventure games IMO.

    4. I think that Nippon Safes was not that bad, and certainly not in the same league as Enchantia.

    5. I agree about Nippon Safes, it wasn't great but it has positive points. You can see the developers were trying to make a decent game at least.

    6. Yes, Nippon wasn't all that bad. The most annoying things were the interface and translation issues. Outside of that, it had its moments

  11. Bargon Attack was not a good game by any stretch of the imagination but it was at least bearable and I had a few moments of fun playing through it. Curse of Enchantia, on the other hand, was comparable in terms of fun to repeatedly hitting my hands with a hammer while walking on hot coals.

  12. Fate of Atlantis by a country mile

Note Regarding Spoilers and Companion Assist Points: There's a set of rules regarding spoilers and companion assist points. Please read it here before making any comments that could be considered a spoiler in any way. The short of it is that no points will be given for hints or spoilers given in advance of the reviewer requiring one. Please...try not to spoil any part of the game...unless they really obviously need the help...or they specifically request assistance.

If this is a game introduction post: This is your opportunity for readers to bet 10 CAPs (only if they already have them) that the reviewer won't be able to solve a puzzle without putting in an official Request for Assistance: remember to use ROT13 for betting. If you get it right, you will be rewarded with 50 CAPs in return.
It's also your chance to predict what the final rating will be for the game. Voters can predict whatever score they want, regardless of whether someone else has already chosen it. All score votes and puzzle bets must be placed before the next gameplay post appears. The winner will be awarded 10 CAPs.
