They weren't more powerful than civilian weapons at this time and in some cases worse. Whether or not the writers were aware of this is another question. Although, thinking about it, it might just be some foreign weapon...MorpheusKitamihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16591271981112642781noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3387495443226852794.post-82056458246180487772019-11-11T19:31:18.226+11:002019-11-11T19:31:18.226+11:00The cigarette on the scene feels too easy, I think...The cigarette on the scene feels too easy, I think he met the victim but did not kill him. I vaguely recall the newspaper was needed only for one of the "side plot" questions at the end (i.e., a question not related to the actual mystery). Wouldn't surprise me if this version simply removed that side plot entirely.Voltglosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07893726442063421240noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3387495443226852794.post-67017063756321098382019-11-11T04:34:24.238+11:002019-11-11T04:34:24.238+11:00Philip Marlow? A French diplomat called Auguste Dupin?

A large exit wound could just be a large caliber revolver, really. Something like a ye olde Model 29. Maybe something in .50 Remington Navy. If he used a proper elephant gun the description would not be large exit wound, it would be chunks of what used to be his torso. Large-caliber rifle rounds tend to be messy on the right target.MorpheusKitamihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16591271981112642781noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3387495443226852794.post-57861631292293801882019-11-11T02:50:11.184+11:002019-11-11T02:50:11.184+11:00Could be, I certainly don't remember anything ...Could be, I certainly don't remember anything decisive in the paper for this case (but then again, I played it a long time ago).Vetinarihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04734964199926068473noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3387495443226852794.post-14466950576655304482019-11-11T01:32:18.564+11:002019-11-11T01:32:18.564+11:00I have dug into this a bit more. I have found that for Vols I and III, but where I've found "original" copies of II on Amazon or eBay, they have not contained the newspaper. Ditto the usual archive sites.

Each game also has an in-game newspaper which you can browse. Consulting Detective Vol. I's newspaper has eight days, starting with February 1888 (Aha!), but Vol II's newspaper has only six days starting July 1888. That doesn't seem like a bug to me, more a deliberate design decision. Again, no paper copy so I cannot verify that.

All that said, I just searched through Vol I's paper and found no articles that related to this case. It's possible they just didn't include the relevant pages in the in-game newspaper because they weren't actually needed for this case? (They do have articles that are required for the first game's Mummy case.)Joe Pranevichhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12997014242774219758noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3387495443226852794.post-42490525256648258042019-11-10T20:08:45.563+11:002019-11-10T20:08:45.563+11:00Having no newspaper to look at is certainly odd. For sure there was one in the boardgame.
If it helps, this case is #1 in the tabletop version, so if the newspaper is the same you can just look at the first one (chronologically).Vetinarihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04734964199926068473noreply@blogger.com
