I haven't actually played the ZorkQuests, although to be fair, looking up a short summary of "The Crystal of Doom" makes it sound like this cover art might be slightly less bizarre, although still maybe not what one would call accurate.arcanetriviahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02033767865654085177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3387495443226852794.post-75980555872152915012019-09-30T16:31:42.894+10:002019-09-30T16:31:42.894+10:00I was wondering what you had against the artist un...I was wondering what you had against the artist until I had a closer look. That left leg and right arm, good grief!

It's definitely a generic fantasy-style cover, it promises sexy sorceresses and muscle-bound heroes. Now, as to why most fan translators focus on the console versions of such games instead of the original computer versions is a mystery to me. Though I'd give the oddness edge to the TRS version because it makes the player look like a psychopathic arsehole - that is not a heroic expression.TBDhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07010934567583163570noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3387495443226852794.post-30336028333888429332019-09-27T07:19:29.657+10:002019-09-27T07:19:29.657+10:00The cover art for ZorkQuest is just as odd as that...The cover art for ZorkQuest is just as odd as that for this TRS-80 version of Zork I. I never have understood the logic of depicting the Zork protagonist as this sort of pulp fantasy D&D fighter type, since it's supposed to be a player self-insert (although probably with some expectation the player is male, AFGNCAAP notwithstanding). I've never really been able to imagine "myself" literally in the games, but for Zork anyway I always pictured a kind of "everyman" who happens upon this abandoned house and gets caught up in a weird adventure, you know? (Which formula possibly also says something about its enduring appeal vs. some other Infocom games.)arcanetriviahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02033767865654085177noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3387495443226852794.post-83866235795272827842019-09-27T01:41:11.392+10:002019-09-27T01:41:11.392+10:00Great article Joe. I told you in the first Consulting Detective II post that i was catching up with the blog since a few months, reading every single post and comment. I´m still doing it, and i am at the Zork II posts right now, from january 2017, so i still got a long way to get to the present posts. Just want to say that i´ve played hundreds of point & click adventures through the late 80s and all the 90s, but never try a text adventure. I guess being not an english natural speaker, they were going to be too tough for me. Anyways, thanks to this blog (and the Digital Antiquarium, that i start reading thanks to the Adventure Gamer too) i read plenty of material of the history of text adventures, and a lot about Infocom. It's really sad how Cornerstone became one of the main reasons of the Infocoms demise, but thanks to you guys their history will never be forgotten. Superb work.Leo Vellesnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3387495443226852794.post-18149145410172590592019-09-27T00:42:34.177+10:002019-09-27T00:42:34.177+10:00What? And you call yourself a reviewer.

I just wanted a sequitur to tell you guys about this translation software:
https://ztranslate.net/
It's a bit finicky, it uses a lot of CPU power and you need to put it on a SSD. But it translates games to a decent level of English. Its obviously machine-translated, but it works. Slow, but it works. According to the site only The Cave World Saga has been fully translated by it, but I suspect that's because it takes time to play through something with this.MorpheusKitamihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16591271981112642781noreply@blogger.com
