So, if I had come up with a reasonable explanation for some series of numbers, I tried the series with both.
2) The numbers in the cave were a pretty obvious starting point, from which to start, and when I noticed the similarity with the map, that kind of confirmed I had to do something with them - and linked the numbers to that one riddle.
3) If a certain series of numbers didn't work (as they usually didn't) I had the practice of trying also some small permutations of the series, just in case. This was boring, but relatively simple to do.
4) The clue about adding numbers was annoying, because it could have meant so many things... So I just set out to test a lot of them, using all of the variations of the original cave numbers I had tested as a possible base for the summation.
5) Finally one of the codes to be tested did something. Then I had to come up with some reasonable explanation for why this particular variation had worked (other than the producers just deciding to use it). That probably accounts for some of "leaps of logic" you might still find in my reasoning.Ilmari Jauhiainenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01655841880034965950noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3387495443226852794.post-56917355194708672522019-06-15T07:01:06.951+10:002019-06-15T07:01:06.951+10:00Hi, I'm super impressed by the detailed explan...Hi, I'm super impressed by the detailed explanation, and very grateful too actually, since I was desperately trying to understand how on earth could anyone rationally crack the code for the jewel box! Every web page dedicated to this game just gives away the code without even explaining how they found it, and it drove me crazy! Looks like you're the only one on the net who cared for a proper reasoning to walk through this ridiculously difficult game, so I really have to thank you for this! Though I'm still trying to figure out how exactly you made the connection between the map locations and the figures for the jewel box... Anyway congratulations!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11754470627207760663noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3387495443226852794.post-43788072173608812442016-03-19T17:20:54.729+11:002016-03-19T17:20:54.729+11:00Only few hours and the Internet will know it, so I...Only few hours and the Internet will know it, so I won't reveal my opinions yet. You seemed to enjoy it. Given that most of what I have read about this game tends towards the negative, or damning with faint praise (flawed near-masterpiece, good ideas poorly implemented, etc.), I'm really looking forward to your take. Will you go with the crowd or be a contrarian? The Internet wants to know!Alexhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16946742995687817751noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3387495443226852794.post-38699941041339919372016-03-19T06:19:34.290+11:002016-03-19T06:19:34.290+11:00I can definitely imagine this kind of game isn'...I can definitely imagine this kind of game isn't everyone's cup of tea. It takes lot of patience to gather up all the evidence - check up movements of every suspect, go meticulously through each room in search for evidence etc. I've compressed that process very much in my posts, since it just wouldn't be interesting to read about it.

As for whether it was boring - well, I had clear plan what to do, every now and then I found some interesting tidbit that revealed something new, and if I didn't, at least I could tick something off my list. I guess it has similar charm as mapping out a maze in CRPG. Mazes I cannot tolerate, but this is more up my alley - I am just really into classic murder mysteries, with verifying alibis, finding out motives etc.

The only time I really felt negatively toward the game was when I was trying to figure out the code. There was too little feedback that I was making any progress, so I just had to stumble in darkness and hope to find the solution.Ilmari Jauhiainenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01655841880034965950noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3387495443226852794.post-68711357345520419082016-03-19T05:39:56.072+11:002016-03-19T05:39:56.072+11:00Clearly pirates (and French) cannot write decent S...Clearly pirates (and French) cannot write decent Spanish.Ilmari Jauhiainenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01655841880034965950noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3387495443226852794.post-1720012045170306462016-03-19T05:01:11.232+11:002016-03-19T05:01:11.232+11:00This looks like a long game, but one where you wer...This looks like a long game, but one where you weren't bored. There are at least two different ways you can solve the puzzle (use a 3 gallon and 5 gallon jug to get 4 gallons), but they take different amounts of time due to varying amounts of filling/transferring/emptying.
